Grape Expectations

Jennifer and Ryan exchange vineyard vows in stunning Kelowna, British Columbia. By Roseanne Dela Rosa

About the Couple
Bride: Jennifer Spencer
Groom: Ryan Robins
Occupations: Jennifer is in video production and Ryan is in marketing services and events.
How they met: Staff retreat.
Fave date: Heading to Banff and skating on Lake Louise.
Engagement story: Due to their jobs, Jennifer and Ryan were fortunate to have the opportunity to go to the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. After the games they chose to travel to Rome and Venice. While in Venice, they decided to take a gondola ride. Jennifer told Ryan maybe they shouldn’t, as it was quite expensive. However, Ryan convinced Jennifer that they should take this possibly once-in-a-lifetime chance. Jennifer gave in and they hopped in the gondola and headed towards the famous Rialto Bridge. Ryan began telling Jennifer how much she meant to him. Slightly confused, Jennifer asked why he was getting all sappy. To her surprise, just as they were heading underneath the bridge, Ryan pulled out a beautiful engagement ring and asked her to be his wife. All the people on the bridge could see what was happening, and as they went underneath the bridge, everyone ran to the other side to see her reaction. Ryan said he really hoped Jennifer would say yes as he didn’t have anywhere to go. At that very moment Jennifer said, “yes.”

The Wedding Day
Wedding date:  August 4, 2007
Guests: 100
Her best moment: When the marriage commissioner introduced us as Jennifer and Ryan Robins, our DJ played “Beautiful Day” by U2.
What would they do differently: We wish we had more time to visit with our guests. The night went by so quickly and we didn’t get a chance to chat with everyone.
Wedding song: “When You Say Nothing At All” by Alison Krauss. The lyrics and mood of the song symbolized our relationship.
Fave gift: The photos. The photographer put together a beautiful wedding album for our gift.
What made his day: All our guests had to travel so far; so (the best part is) knowing they had such a great time sharing in our special day.
Best wedding detail: Our DJ. He was our MC as well and made our day so amazing.
Honeymoon: Hawaii in November. We decided to take our honeymoon a bit late, once the weather started to cool down.
The day in three words: Perfect. Fun. Unique.
