About the Couple
Bride: Catherine Nina Magnaye (goes by Nina)
Groom: Denny Pagtakhan
Occupations: Nina is a secondary Social Studies teacher. Denny is in IT sales.
How they met: Nina’s older sister, Astrid was getting married in June 2003. Denny’s mother was making the bridesmaid’s dresses. Denny’s older brother, Donovan and Astrid had been good friends throughout their post secondary education and beyond. Their parents had become good friends and although Astrid, Donovan and both of their sets of parents tried to match them together for years, Denny and Nina had not met until the day they got fitted for Astrid’s bridesmaid’s dresses. When Denny called to ask Nina out, she thought he was calling as an errand for his mom or his brother. They went out once and Nina thought Denny made a better friend than a boyfriend. They played on volleyball teams, made common friends and Denny continued to pursue Nina, but she regularly declined the offer until around August 2005. Denny said he couldn’t be her friend anymore given that he wanted something more. It was then that she actually realized how important their relationship was to her. They started dating and the rest is history.
Fave date: July 14, 2006 (when Denny proposed)
What attracted her to him: His honesty and kindness to every person he meets.
What attracted him to her: It’s hard for Denny to pick something out when it’s everything.
Engagement story: They were kicking a soccer ball around at the beach when Denny wanted to sit on a log together. They were talking and then he got down on one knee and asked Nina to marry him.
