About the Couple
Bride: Marie-Eve Best
Groom: Michael Johnson
How they met: The couple met while in Art History class at McGill University. “I think we both caught each other’s eye but we didn’t speak for quite some time. I liked to stare at him from afar and tell my roommates about ‘the hot guy in my art history class.’ Finally one day he sat next to me (not by coincidence) and we struck up a conversation, and shortly after we became great friends until eventually that turned into something more,” gushes Marie-Eve.
Engagement story: “After dating for seven years, Mike and I knew that we were ready to take the next step in our relationship. I believe my exact words to him were ‘I’m ready when you are.’ I was convinced there was no way he would ever be able to surprise me, so on a vacation to New York City in 2008 I was sure he would pop the question. When it didn’t happen I decided that I was getting ahead of myself and convinced myself not to expect anything for a while. A few weeks later we decided to go for a mid-week supper to a restaurant in our neighbourhood. As we walked home the sun was setting and the air was warm, so I suggested we take a detour through the big park by our house. When we got to the lake Mike started shaking (his nerves got the best of him) and I knew something was up. He took my hand and brought me under a tree by the water and asked me to marry him. He had my grandmother’s ring in his hand and the biggest grin on his face. We hugged for what seemed like hours and a nice elderly couple clapped for us. We then sat on a park bench and called everyone we knew. It was a perfect evening,” Marie-Eve explains.
