The Wedding Day
Wedding date: April 19, 2008
Guests: 150
Motif: Very damask. Very old meets new. Contemporary and modern.
Her best moment: “The first time I saw Josh. We chose to do pictures before the ceremony, because we knew the night would go by so quickly. We wanted to be present and soak it all in.”
Advice to others: “Hire a planner! Working with our planner was great because we trusted her and all the ideas and people that she brought to the table. Put your trust in your vendors and let them do what they do. For us, we wanted to have a great event. Don’t be afraid to go with someone who is an event planner, rather than someone who’s strictly in the wedding industry. It was great for us to work with someone who put on a slick event, and the fact that she wasn’t strictly by the book allowed us to experiment!”
Wedding song: “We wanted to have fun with it. Our first dance was Mannequin’s theme song, ‘Nothing’s Gonna Stop us Now.’ Doing our first dance to this song allowed us to incorporate our sense of humour.”
Most unexpected moment: When Tara’s eight-year-old niece Hailey made a beautiful speech.
Best surprise: “The good thing was that there were no surprises. It was such a smooth day.”
What made their day: “The day is about each other. It’s about sharing it with your friends and family—all the people who love you. That’s something special that you can’t ever recreate. Feeling that kind of love from that many people and everyone being there for you is wonderful. And the speeches were overwhelming—Josh’s best man Matt was just amazing.”
Fave wedding gift: “The gift that my sister got for Josh and I. She worked with a sommelier and gave us a whole crate with 12 different types of wine. There was also a tag on every single one of them to describe at what year certain vintages would be peaking. She gave us 12 bottles for the next 12 years and a little book describing each of the wines and where they’re from.”
The day in three words: Memorable. Perfect. Impeccable.
