About the Couple
Bride: Kathleen Nolan
Groom: Rick Lau
How they met: “Rick and I knew of each other long before we officially met,” says Kathleen. “We both attended the same university for our undergraduate degrees, had lots of mutual friends and even lived next door to each other for a short time. However, being a few years apart we didn’t actually meet,” she says. “A few years later we each separately moved to Halifax to study at Dalhousie Medical School. We met when Rick was a medical resident and I was a medical student – I like to think we fell in love while repairing a broken eye socket! (truth is we didn’t start dating until about 6 months later).&rdquo
Engagement story: “We had planned a thanksgiving camping trip to Kejimkujik, a National park a few hours outside of Halifax,” remembers Kathleen. “I had worked the night before and was exhausted and slightly daunted by the torrential downpour that started on our drive. The wind and rain made for a very tough six hour canoe trip to our campsite, but we were rewarded when we got there by some beautiful sunshine, and after we set up camp Rick surprised me with a beautiful proposal!” she says with a smile.
