About the Couple
Bride: Dorothy Hart
Groom: Shawn Hann
Occupations: Dorothy is an elementary school vice-principal and Shawn is a firefighter.
How they met: Shawn’s friend and Dorothy’s friend met on the dance floor in a Halifax establishment. While their friends were dancing, Dorothy and Shawn took the opportunity to have a seat and chat. As they waited for their friends, Dorothy and Shawn realized that there was definitely a connection between them, and they exchanged phone numbers before the end of the night. Their first date was a few days later.
Favourite date: On their second date they went out to watch the waves at Lawrencetown Beach. It was dusk, and a warm wind was blowing. They spent the evening talking and cuddling. That night they had their first kiss. Shawn is such a gentleman that he even asked if he could!
What attracted her to him: His strong jawline, dark hair and serious eyes.
What attracted him to her: Her piercing, beautiful eyes and her less than forward approach.
Engagement story: “Shawn and I knew we wanted to get married. I think we had even discussed possible dates almost a year ahead of time,” says Dorothy. “When I was casually shopping with a friend one day I found a beautiful ring by Simon G. I knew that it had to be the one. Shawn and I looked around at other stores, but it only reaffirmed that the Simon G. was the ring for me. I had no idea when Shawn was actually going to ask and one day as he was patiently waiting for me to get ready to go out for the evening, he casually set the ring on the top of my purse. As I rushed to get ready and grab my bag, I stopped in shock at what I saw. The first thing I did was cry. Shawn was speechless, and he eventually asked, 'What do I do?' I said, 'Put it on my finger.' And that is how we came to be engaged!”
Words they live by: Never take each other for granted.
