How they met: “We went to the same high school so we knew of each other (however we never spoke until years later). My best friend threw a party and Karlo was there with his friends. We ended up talking a lot that night and ended up dating very shortly after,” Lara recalls.
Engagement story: Following Vancouver’s big snowfall in 2008, Lara and Karlo ventured outside to play in the snow. “When Karlo suggested we build a giant snowman I was skeptical, the snow was too powdery and wouldn’t stick well. Finally, after an hour of trying, we had only produced a teeny-tiny snowman that stood two feet tall. Not wanting to leave the adorable little guy behind, we picked him up and brought him back to our place with us,” Lara says with a smile. “The next day was Christmas Eve. We had plans to go to my mom’s house, but our car was snowed in and the roads were pretty bad. Karlo insisted that we bundle up, pack up all our gifts and make the trek out to the car and on to my mom’s house. When we got outside I noticed something small and red on the snowman. As I got closer I saw that it was a small heart with writing on it. I put the bags full of presents down on the ground and got close enough to read the little heart, when I turned around Karlo was down on one knee. We stood there in the snow, embracing, crying and I was happier than I have ever been. The road got quiet, and as the snow fell down on us I couldn’t help but feel like we were inside our own giant snow globe. It was the best proposal ever,” Lara declares.

It was a great wedding and great time to be with relatives and new-found friends. I wish everyone would have been able to come though.
