I just returned from my Arizona honeymoon and it was wonderful.
Sedona is fantastic for hiking - so many trails, so little time! We stayed at the Apple Orchard Inn which is definitely worthy of a mention. Great owners, yummy breakfast, wonderful room and the warm soak under the stars at night is divine! The Cowboy Club on Hwy 89A has cactus fries (strips of prickly pear cactus) that are a pleasant treat. A must try.
Located near the "Y" of Hwy 179 and 89A, the shopping "village" of Tlaquepaque is delightful to just wander around in, even if you don't plan to buy anything. However, there are lots of great shops if you do decide to purchase some art or mementos.
Check out the Oak Creek Grill at Tlaquepaque. If you like micro-brewed beer order the "Seven Dwarfs" - seven 5 oz glasses of different beer. Quite interesting and you are sure to find at least one to your liking.
If you are traveling Northern AZ be sure to stay at La Posada in Winslow (approx 45 min east of Flagstaff). Designed by Mary Colter in the 30s and now being restored by the current owners it is a very interesting place. I half expected to see a black-and-white-era movie star come around the corner at any moment.
The Turquoise Room restaurant at La Posada is wonderful for service and fresh, tasty delights. Try the green chili potatoes at breakfast. The coffee is roasted locally and is heaven.
La Posada is located on legendary Route 66 and up the street from the corner made famous by the Eagles in the song "Take It Easy" ("...standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona...").
Arizona is worthy of the dreaming. We already plan to return despite the long plane trip from Nova Scotia.
