Cross-Country Romance

Jennifer Krueger and Jason Gunn, July 18, 2009, Ajax, Ontario. By Rebecca Essegern

About the Couple:
Bride: Jennifer Krueger
Groom: Jason Gunn
Occupations: Jennifer is an interior designer and Jason is a millwright.
How they met: The pair met at Jennifer’s aunt’s wedding over eight years ago.
Favourite date: “We rented a cottage at Java Lake with friends. We did our own thing for two weeks and enjoyed each other’s company. It was so relaxing.”
Engagement Story: After moving from Ontario to Alberta, the pair regularly made day trips to tour Alberta and British Columbia. On the day of the proposal they went to Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden, B.C. After a gondola ride and a mountaintop dinner, Jason proposed at the Eagle’s Eye restaurant. Jennifer says, “I never thought I would get engaged at 7,700 feet above sea level. I couldn’t have asked for a better day—it was beautiful weather and the proposal was completely unexpected.”
Words they live by: “Never go to bed angry, you never know what the morning will bring.”

The Wedding Day:
Wedding date: July 18, 2009
Guests: 125
His best moment: When the sun came out and the whole sky lit up as Jennifer and her father walked down the aisle.
Her best moment: “Seeing family and friends and marrying the man I love. You could say the entire wedding was my favourite moment.”
What they would have done differently: The couple wishes they had had the father/daughter and mother/son dances a bit earlier in the evening.
Advice to other couples: “Give yourselves lots of time to plan, and don’t stress over things you can’t control, like the weather.”
Wedding song: "She’s Everything" by Brad Paisley. “We always sing this song and change the words to suit us, so we thought it was a perfect choice.”
Most unexpected moment: Jennifer realized 30 minutes before the ceremony that she’d left her garter back in Alberta. She found one at the last minute, thanks to their florist.
Favourite wedding detail: “The cake. I just loved how well it turned out, and it tasted great, too.”
What made her day: “Everything coming together so beautifully, and finally marrying Jason after eight years.”
What made his day: “Marrying Jennifer! And being able to wear a kilt.”
The day in three words:  Memorable, magical, loving.
Honeymoon: The couple are still deciding where they want to go, and are looking forward to a trip together.
