About the Couple
Bride: Stephanie Jones
Groom: Scott McKenzie
How they met: A mutual friend set them up.
Engagement story: “We were at my family cottage in the Kawarthas,” explains Stephanie. “Although it was getting late in the evening and the sun was setting, Scott insisted that we go fishing—which I love. After seeing a mother bear and her two cubs, we made our way to the other side of the private lake. Scott wanted to head to a small waterfall, which he was convinced was upstream. We canoed upstream for a few minutes, but then he realized that there was no waterfall. I found out later that he thought it would have been the perfect place to propose. He decided to 'park' the canoe between two large stones peeking out of the water. Then, he suggested that I turn around to face him in the canoe to get at the prime fishing spot. As I cast my line, he reached into his jacket pocket and held his hand there. I noticed, but thought nothing of it. I cast my line again, at which time he asked if I could put down the fishing rod for a few minutes. Then, Scott got down on one knee in the canoe and pulled out the ring box. I fell to my knees in shock! He opened the box and revealed a brilliant solitaire diamond engagement ring and said, ‘Stephanie Jones, will you marry me?’ And, of course, I said, ‘Yes!’”
