Anchors Away

Leslie Gordon and Kyle Christie, May 30, 2008, Italy. By Roseanne Dela Rosa

About the couple:
Bride: Leslie Gordon
Groom: Kyle Christie
Occupations: Kyle and Leslie are both CTV news anchors.
How they met: They anchored a show together and couldn’t stop laughing.
Fave date: Going bowling and laughing over the lady beside them who corrected their form in front of the entire alley—what’s wrong with granny shots?
What attracted her to him: He’s funny, smart, confident and very handsome.
What attracted him to her: Her beauty, talent, independence, strong mind and sense of humour.
Engagement story: Kyle had proposed with a cantaloupe on the Boston Harbour. Leslie thought he was telling her that they needed to eat more fruit. The real story though was that Kyle’s grandfather proposed to his grandmother over ice cream and a cantaloupe, and they have been married 65 years and are still madly in love. After the proposal, Leslie found out that Kyle had been running everywhere in Quincy Market looking for one. He ran up a steep set of stairs and found a cantaloupe stand just when he needed it. Kyle says it was a sign from above.

The wedding day:
Wedding date: May 30, 2008.
Wedding theme: All things Italy.
Her best moment: “When he cried the moment he saw me. I started to cry, too. It was very emotional and absolutely wonderful.”
His best moment: “The moment she arrived. I cried like a baby.”
What they would have done differently: “Not a thing.”
Advice to others: “Do what you want to do and remember the day is about your commitment to each other, not about where people are going to sit and the colour of the flowers.”
Wedding song: “‘God Bless the Broken Road,’ by the Raskal Flats.  Every moment in our lives, good and bad, lead us to each other.”
Fave wedding gift: “All the love and best wishes from our friends and family.”
Most unexpected moment: “Kyle had given me a beautiful locket to wear the day of the wedding, but until we saw each other for the first time at the ceremony, I had no idea it opened up. Inside was a picture of our little guy, Carter. He’s three years old, and it was important he was a part of our special day.”
Best surprise: “All the generosity of the locals as we walked through the tiny streets. People cheering, clapping and buying us drinks. It was such an amazing feeling.”
The day in three words: There’s really only one—perfect!
