An Affair to Remember

Amber O’Neill and Shane Singh, September 6, 2008, Vancouver. By Roseanne Dela Rosa

About the Couple
Bride: Amber O’Neill
Groom: Shane Singh
Occupations: Amber is an event logistics manager and Shane is a director of support services.
How they met: Through mutual friends.
Favourite date: Valentine’s Day
What attracted her to him: His eyes and the way he carried himself.
What attracted him to her: Her smile.
Engagement story: It was Christmas morning when Shane handed Amber a card and a stocking. At the very bottom of Amber’s stocking there was a box.  Amber opened it (thinking it was the diamond earrings she was hoping for) and there was her beautiful ring. Amber looked at Shane in disbelief, and he was on one knee asking if she would marry him. Clearly, she said: "yes!"
Words they live by: Relax and enjoy life.

The wedding day:
Wedding date: September 6, 2008
Guests: 140
Wedding theme: Classic and contemporary. Black and white with green accents.
Her best moment: “Seeing Shane standing at the altar with a big smile on his face.”
His best moment: “Seeing my beautiful bride walk down the aisle.”
What would you have done differently: “Absolutely nothing. It was a fabulous day!”
Advice you would give to other couples that are getting married: “I’m sure that many couples have said this before, but our best advice would be to enjoy every minute of it—it all happens so fast!”
Wedding song: “‘All I want is you’ by U2. The lyrics of this song have a lot of meaning for us. We have been in each other’s lives for a very long time. We were close friends for 12 years prior to becoming a couple, so we’ve seen each other go through good times and bad, and as cheesy as this may sound, we always knew in the back of our minds that we should be together. Plus we both love the song and the band.”
The day in three words: Beautiful, fun and perfect!
Favourite wedding gift: “A good friend of ours made a donation to the B.C. Children’s Hospital in our names. It was such a great gift!”
Most unexpected moment: “When the priest gave me a kiss on the cheek and grinned at all our guests. It was a really cute moment that made everyone laugh.”
Favourite wedding detail: “The steel pan band. They were amazing!”
What made her day: “The weather turned out beautifully.”
What made his day: “Seeing all our family and friends there for us.”
Best surprise of the day: “When Shane and I exited the church and the cathedral bells rang and rang and rang. It was super-cool!”
Honeymoon: Paris, France.
