Summer has always been the most popular time to get married. More than half of Canadian brides (52 percent) choose to tie the knot during the sunny summer months! With Mother Nature at her best, this can be an inspiring time to create a super-sweet makeup palette for your big day. Here are some of the top trends and tips on how you can create a radiant summer bridal palette.
Explore Eyeliner
Eyeliner is an essential to your bridal look, and while black is a forever classic; consider coloured liner in shades like green, eggplant, navy blue or silver to make your eyes really pop! Try Lancôme's Le Stylo Waterproof Long Lasting Eyeliner ($28, lancome.ca) in Fumé for wear that won't smudge during the summer heat.
Sultry Shadows
A little colour on the eyes is very on trend right now, but that doesn't mean you should go overboard for your wedding look. Think of colour as an accent to keep your look subtle and fresh. Dior's 5-Colour Designer All-in-One Artistry Palette ($60, at department stores) in Nude Pink Design contains shades of blush and plum, making it complementary to most complexions. Plus the shades can be applied wet or dry, so you can easily amp it up for the reception.
Cheeks 101
All brides want to glow on their wedding day and bronzer is a great way to add a beautiful sheen to tanned skin, but beware if you're pale because you'll risk appearing orange and streaky. Lancaster's Illuminating Compact Powder ($39, at Shoppers Drug Mart) is a unique multi-dimensional powder that has five tone-on-tone shades to fit all skin types and complexions.
Beautiful Brows
Don't forget those arches! You can define your entire look just by filling in the sparse areas. The perfect mini kit is Benefit's Brow Zings ($34, at Shoppers Drug Mart), with pigmented wax, a complementary setting powder and discreet tweezers (just in case).
Shimmering Star
A highlight of shimmer under your brow bone and on your upper cheeks will have you radiating a healthy glow. Just don’t overdo it, especially if you’re having an outdoor ceremony—you don’t want to look like a disco ball! Our pick for just the right amount of shine? We love Laura Mercier's Loose Shimmer Powder ($44, at Holt Renfrew), to glisten skin.
Luscious Lips
The basic rule is: if you’re wearing an eye-popping shade on your lips, keep your eyes simple (or vice versa). Right now, berry stained lips are a fresh and flirty look that’s perfect for your wedding. Makeup artist Michelle Rosen recently blogged about her favourites, and to add to that list, we also love Stila's Cherry Crush Lip & Cheek Stain ($32, at Sephora). We're not sure how, but the stain reacts to your pH levels: creating a totally customized pout.
