The good news: your best friend just asked you to become her maid of honour, and you gladly accepted. Bad news: you’re not entirely certain what all your duties entail. But don’t worry, there’s absolutely nothing to fret about. Here is a broken-down list of all the responsibilities that come hand in hand when it comes to being the perfect maid of honour.
Prewedding Duties
- Help host and organize the bridal shower
- Plan the bachelorette party
- Go gown hunting with the bride-to-be
- Scout for some good locations for the ceremony or reception with the bride
- Some brides, especially ones who don’t have a wedding planner, also like assistance with sending out the invitations, assembling the favours, planning the seating arrangements, helping out with the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner
- Ensure that all the other bridesmaids have done their tasks (i.e gone for their fittings)
- Tell all the guests where the happy couple is registered
- Organize that special gift from all the bridesmaids
Wedding Day: The Ceremony
- Help the bride get into her dress and make sure that last minute touchups to hair and makeup are done
- Act as a messenger between the bride and other guests
- Assist bride with the veil and train down the aisle
- Hold onto the bride’s bouquet during the ceremony
- Be a witness to the marriage by signing the marriage certificate
- If there is no ring bearer and the best man isn’t carrying the rings then it’s your responsibility to hold onto them before they exchange rings
Wedding Day: The Reception
- Make a speech
- Dance with the best man
- Ensure that the schedule is intact and that everything is going according to plan
- Be the bride's right-hand gal, keeping her relaxed and stress-free on her W-day
- Help bring home the gifts
- Assist in the cleanup and make sure that nothing gets left behind
