Looking for fresh blooms for your winter wedding? Toronto-based flower shop Cool, Green and Shady offers these tips and tricks on maintaining beautiful floral arrangements for your cold-weather wedding.
The Best Winter Flowers
Freshly cut Amaryllis, Rosehip and Hellebore are beautiful flowers that are only available during the winter season. Their crisp, clean and modern looks suit the season perfectly. Other favourite flowers for the winter season are Tulips, which are available in November and white hydrangeas, which are available year round but are really trendy at the moment.
Winter Flowers to Avoid
Stephanotis, Gardenias, Lily of the Valley, Cherry Blossoms and blue and pink hydrangeas are next to impossible to get during the winter season. If you can get your hands on them, be prepared to pay top dollar, as they’d have to be flown in from another country.
Three Tips for Winter Blooms
1. On your wedding day, keep the bouquets in water until you absolutely need them.
2. During photos, try to do any outdoor pictures after the ceremony. This way, if the flowers freeze, you won't see the effects until a couple of hours later (when you no longer need them).
3. Purchase extra boutonnières for the men just in case they need to swap them halfway through the day.
