Wine Not?

Break in those must-have crystal goblets and host a wine tasting chez vous. By Nicole Keen

There’s no time like the present to start your wine collection - not that any of it will last long enough to appreciate in value - so invite your nearest and dearest to bring a bottle of vino to your new place for a wine tasting extravaganza!

A wine tasting party is a wonderful way to learn more about wine and makes for a lively social gathering. First, decide on a theme. For instance, you may want to compare several different Cabernets or various wines from a certain region such as Chile or Australia. Choose between four and six wines for comparison and keep the bottles concealed in paper bags or tinfoil (this is called “blind tasting”).

Next, instruct each guest to make notes about their favourite wine of the bunch.

If you’re really serious, you can make scorecards and assign a points system. However, we don’t recommend doing it like the pros - they always spit out the wine after each sip. And to that we say, why let a good wine go to waste?
