Jamie Kennedy's Wedding Lunch Menu

Toronto super-chef Jamie Kennedy offers his menu suggestions for a chic lunchtime wedding. By Alison McGill

Twelve o’clock is definitely gaining popularity as the hour to wed. A noon hour celebration is a brilliant idea if you want a relaxed party, one that’s not overly formal, but is still a gorgeous event to remember. It’s easy to find a venue to host your affair, but deciding on food options can be a little tricky. You don’t want a meal that’s too heavy or too light, but you do want it to be tasty and unforgettable. Great food, after all, is one of the things that can turn a party from ordinary to extraordinary.

We turned to one of Canada’s biggest culinary stars Jamie Kennedy—who with his team of experts creates dream menus for a lot of weddings—to imagine his perfect luncheon menu. His take?
“I envision a long table with a succession of small courses being served over the course of an afternoon,” Kennedy muses. “Daytime fare might vary slightly from evening fare—the courses would be lighter and more colourful in nature. For instance, a summer menu might consist of a beautiful cold soup, a salad compose, a fish dish, a sparkling berry float, a spit roasted bird, crunchy greens with a couple of local artisan cheeses and a chocolate raspberry dessert. I love the idea of having an expansive meal for a very relaxed daytime celebration.”

Kennedy’s suggestions sound absolutely delish, but one thing he warns about when planning your meal is thinking it will cost less than an evening meal. “In terms of budget, I really don’t think a great lunch is any less expensive than a dinner—it probably works out to be roughly the same.”
