Does the thought of throwing a brunch intimidate you? Ever want to pack a picnic to impress, but don’t know how to start? No worries, Weddingbells gives you the low-down on how to treat your guests like royalty, whatever the occasion.
Brunch Basics
For a weekend feast, treat your guests like royalty by serving up sumptuous snacks on colourful, casual tableware.
- For a pretty presentation, pile a selection of bakery treats (i.e. croissants, Danishes, and bagels) on a roast platter. Fill a funky floral teacup with whipped butter and tuck cup onto one side of the platter.
- Scramble up a dozen or so eggs, then keep them warm and toast inside a covered casserole dish.
- If you have a group of diehard coffee drinkers in the house, serve a smooth French roast in your coffee pot, steaming hot milk in matching teapot and shaved chocolate curls in a gravy boat.
- For those guests who love to eat healthy, mix up a fresh batch of muesli for them. Have yogurt and fresh fruit available as accoutrements.
- Don’t forget the drinks! Stock up on a selection of juices, sparkling waters, and if you’re feeling creative, whip up your own breakfast cocktail (champers and orange juice) are always a great way to start the day.
Packing a Picnic
Want to have a party in the park before the big game or outdoor concert? Don’t think you have to own a hulking SUV to serve up a tailgate feast. Instead, use your trunk as a portable buffet. Line the bottom with a classic red-and-white checkered tablecloth, then bust out your durable casual dinnerware and serve your feast.
Some planning tips:
- Pre-chill your serving dishes in the freezer so cold salads will stay cold in your specialty buffet
- Use a teapot as a charming way to serve iced fruit syrup or frozen fruit liquer, a delicious addition to club soda, white wine or champagn
- Serve iced coffee with Italian biscotti for dessert. Pre-chill coffee cups in the freezer before packing into the ice chest.
