As more of you are discovering, kitchenware and china patterns aren’t the only items that can be registered for today. “Many couples now choose to register their weddings at art galleries to start or continue their art collections,” says Alison Goodwin, Director of The Village Gallery in Oakville. “When people are first-time art buyers, they usually tend to invest in a much larger piece.” Although art galleries can be daunting, art registry is really easy. Here is our five-step process for registering.
1. Establish what kind of art you and your husband-to-be are interested in, as many independent galleries specialize in different styles.
2. Once you’ve figured out what kind of style you like, find out what type of space you have in your house, that way you’ll know what size you can register for.
3. Get researching on the type of galleries that are around your area (it’ll be easier transporting from a gallery near your home and more cost-effective, too).
4. Once you’ve found a place, make sure to scout it. “Our staff will tour the gallery with the couple and assist them in choosing their work of art,” explains Goodwin. 5. When you’ve decided on your piece, talk to the director or manager in charge about setting up a registry account. Most galleries don’t advertise that they can do this, but they should be able to accommodate your request.
The way an art registry will work (depending on price), is that guests will pitch in and contribute a certain amount, so be mindful that you might have to pay the remaining amount.
