Plan Your Winter Wedding

Eight tips to help you plan your winter wedding. By Roseanne Dela Rosa

Planning a wedding during the winter months can be exciting and easy on the budget—but only if done right. Here are some tips and tricks to consider:

Flowers
When it comes to choosing your wedding flowers, you may find it difficult to find the summer blooms that you long for. Popular blooms like peonies, tulips and orchids are often not in season during this time. Rather than spending the extra cost to import them, opt for gorgeous florals that are in season like hydrangeas, lilies and roses.

Venue
Don’t be surprised if you find yourself easily booking a ceremony or reception hall. Since there aren’t many weddings booked during the winter months, many places are usually available and open for business, and costs could also be lower.

Fashion
Watch out for the snow, especially with your wedding dress. Make sure to tuck your train before heading out or have somebody carry your train. If you’ll be trudging around a lot, consider changing into a pair of boots and save your pretty shoes for inside. Also, you might want to purchase a cute jacket to go with your wedding attire—especially if you’ll be taking wedding photos outside.

Food
Have fun with your menu. Get creative and serve items that are reminiscent of the cold, like hot chocolate as opposed to cold ice cream—your guests will enjoy the hot treats.

Transportation
Whether you like it or not, the weather could be a deciding factor on how long it will take you to get to your ceremony and reception. Keep an eye out for any snowstorms that may be heading your way so that you can plan to leave extra early to get to your destination. You may also want to consider riding in a stable vehicle such as an SUV—there’s nothing worst than getting stuck on the side of the road on your W-day!

Date
If you plan on choosing a winter wedding, be cautious of the date you choose. If you set the date during that week between Christmas and New Year’s be prepared for guests who cannot attend as they may be on vacation. Also, the weeks leading up to the holidays will be jam-packed with work and social parties. Send out your Save-the-Date cards in advance so guests can mark it on their calendar.

Travel
This is actually a great time to travel for your honeymoon. Expect to see great travel deals and rates. Last-minute deals might be something to consider.
