You’ve probably already registered for Egyptian cotton sheets (400 thread count, please!) and plush bathroom towels, but have you considered adding some table linens to your list? As you may have noticed, the finest restaurants always have fabric tablecloths and crisp, white napkins, so why not bring some of this elegance home? Chances are you’re going to be doing a lot of entertaining over the next few months, and a properly set table will take any event to the next level! For a long, rectangular table, opt for a sleek, sophisticated runner and some patterned placemats. Otherwise, choose a classic tablecloth, and make sure to invest in high-quality linens—these pieces can become heirlooms to be passed on to future generations. Speaking of which, some monogrammed napkins will add a touch of class to any newlywed table. Typically, napkins are available in three sizes: cocktail, luncheon and dinner. Cocktail napkins are the smallest of the bunch, intended for dabbing the mouth, while luncheon and dinner napkins are meant to cover each guest’s lap while eating. Besides being classy and stylish, table linens are also an environmentally friendly alternative to their paper and plastic cousins.
