Whether you’re the clumsy sort or not, stains happen, even to the best of us. To keep all those stains at arm’s length, Weddingbells came up with these easy-to-follow instructions. So whether it’s oil or chocolate that you’re battling, your day won’t be sacrificed because of one little mishap. Take note: make sure to test the suggested stain fixes below on an unseen part of your dress, such as the inside hem.
Culprit: Red wine
Solution: Gently dab at the stain with a clean white cloth soaked in warm water and dishwashing liquid. Work from the outer edges of the stain to the middle. Keep dabbing and do not rub.
Culprit: Oily food
Solution: Use powder or chalk to absorb the stain then use dishwashing liquid and a clean white cloth to remove the excess.
Culprit: Ink
Solution: Put a cloth behind the fabric to catch the excess spray and soak the stain with hairspray; or, quickly cover the stain with a piece of white chalk.
Culprit: Makeup
Solution: Use baking soda or talcum powder to absorb the stain then use dishwashing liquid and a clean white cloth to remove the excess.
Culprit: Coffee and tea
Solution: Sprinkle a little baking soda on a clean, wet dishcloth and dab into the stain working from the outer edges of the spot to the middle; or, you can begin by blotting with a clean white cloth from outside to inside. Sponge stain with dish soap and lukewarm water then blot again with clean white cloth.
Culprit: Chocolate
Solution: Remove excess with a dull knife and rinse back of stain with cold water. Soak in cold water, rubbing the stain as it soaks until the stain loosens (this may take several minutes).
