I think we can all agree that every girl has at least one fashion epiphany in her lifetime—a moment that truly defines her style sensibility. For me, one of my formative fashion moments was courtesy of Molly Ringwald in Pretty in Pink (which was actually released in 1986, only one year after the first issue of Weddingbells!). I was head over heels for Ringwald’s quirky vintage style—oversized blazers, floral prints and tomboyish hats—in this film, and unashamedly sought to emulate her look. Upon reflection, one of her trend-setting ensembles actually provides incredible inspiration for your aisle style. For her prom, Ringwald remakes a friend’s ’50’s (pink!) dress into a brand-new creation. Wouldn’t this be a great way to repurpose mom or grandma’s wedding gown? Some easy alterations to a vintage dress, like removing the sleeves or changing the hemline, can make a huge difference. If there’s not much to salvage, what about using some of an old gown’s lace to trim your veil? For the record, not all ’80’s fashion was terrible, but some of it sure was interesting. We’ve picked some of our favourite Weddingbells fashion moments from the past 25 years, check them out here.
