Something Old, Something New…

…something borrowed and something blue! Here are some ideas to help you fulfill this age-old wedding tradition. By Aubrey Akalehiywot and Sabrina Mroke

Something old serves as a symbol of the past and of relationships that will be cherished in the future.
• Rent a vintage car, like a Rolls-Royce, for your W-day transportation.
• Have your wedding at a historic location.
• Print an old family recipe on note cards as wedding favours.
• Wrap one of your grandmother’s handkerchiefs around your bouquet.
• Celebrate with a vintage bottle of bubbly.

Something new serves as a symbol of optimism and hope, something the bride and groom will bring to their new life together.
• Wear a gorgeous pair of designer shoes (Jimmy Choo, anyone?) down the aisle.
• Sign your registry with a brand-new Tiffany pen.
• Take dance classes and debut your new moves during your first dance.

• Create your own signature cocktail for your reception.
• Pick an exotic location—where neither of you have been before—for your honeymoon.

Something borrowed is intended to be a special item from a family member or friend whose wealth from their marriage will rub off on you.
• Use your parents’ or a friend’s house to get ready in.
• Incorporate a friend's wedding detail that you loved.
• Wear your mother’s pearl necklace.
• Play your parents’ first dance song from their wedding.
• Share your grandfather’s words of wisdom with your guests during a toast.

Something blue symbolizes fidelity, purity and above all love.
• Wear baby blue lingerie under your dress.
• Paint your toes a deep indigo hue like OPI’s Yoga-ta Get This Blue! ($10, opi.com).
• Outfit your bridesmaids in a rich shade of sapphire.
• Wear a fresh fragrance like Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue ($30 to $80, sephora.com).
