Weddingbells recently had a chance to chat with Julia Brownstein, the senior buyer for Browns, about one extra-special pair of shoes. For Brownstein, shoes are in the genes (her grandfather Morton Brownstein founded the chain), and she spends her days selecting the best designer shoes for Browns stores across the country. So when it came time to shop for her very own wedding shoes, where did she start? Brownstein first decided on her dress, a Monique Lhuillier creation with lace, tulle and bows. Considering the intricate nature of her gown, Brownstein knew she wanted to keep her shoes fairly simple. Cue family friend and renowned shoe designer Stuart Weitzman. Upon visiting Weitzman’s showroom, Brownstein fell for a pair of white satin platform sandals. In honour of her nuptials, Weitzman surprised Brownstein with a personalized, one-of-a-kind pair of the very same platforms with blue Swarovski crystals on the sole of each shoe depicting the bride and groom’s initials and wedding date. Not only were her shoes stylish and unique, the extra inches came in handy: at only 5’3” Julia needed a little help catching up to her fiancé who measures in at 6’3”! When asked what the shoes mean to her, Brownstein remarks, “Whether or not I wear them again, I will keep them forever, preserved in a shoebox. They’re something I will definitely show my children some day.”
