Say Cheese

A brand-new camera makes a practical addition to your registry list—perfect for capturing all your newlywed memories! By Amy LeBlanc

When it comes to your wish list, registering for a top-of-the-line camera is a no-brainer. Your biggest challenge by far is deciding which model is perfect for you. If you don’t speak the language (what are megapixels anyway?), this task can be more than a little daunting. To help you understand all the nuts and bolts, we turned to Justin Lam, marketing manager of Canon Camera, for his tips on what to look for when purchasing a camera.

Special Features
The purpose of these additional settings is to help all of us who aren’t naturally gifted photographers produce professional-looking photos. Look for a digital camera that has features you will use, such as face detection, which properly adjusts the flash and exposure to produce stunning newlywed pictures of you and your mister.
Tip: Explore the features of a digital camera before purchasing it and ask the salesperson to teach you how to use them properly. If you have difficulty figuring out how your camera works when you get it home, you’ll be less likely to use it.

Speed
No one wants to hold a smile for 30 seconds waiting for the flash to go off. When browsing the digital camera department, ask the salesperson about purchasing a camera with a fast processor. A fast processor will simply process information quickly, which means your camera will obey commands and take pictures faster so you won’t have to hold that “natural” pose for very long.

Name
A lot of camera companies seem to be selling cameras with the exact same features and the same amount of megapixels. A large part of producing great pictures relies on the quality of the individual parts of a camera, including a good lens. Choosing a camera from a reputable camera company, such as Canon, that makes most of the individual parts will ensure a durable and high-quality camera that creates sharp photos you’ll treasure forever.
