Real Stories

Tell us how he proposed?

Peter and I met on stage when we were cast in a semi-professional comedy as a couple sharing a cottage with an older couple. In our short three month stage romance, a real one blossomed and we were inseparable shortly after. One year and eight months later, he was on that very same stage singing lead in a musical that I directed and choreographed. At the end of a performance on the night that we had 40 plus family and friends in the audience of 170, he pulled me on stage to introduce me. He pulled out a live microphone and sang to me (and the audience), 'When You Say You Love Me' by Josh Groban. At the crescendo of the song the curtains, which had been closed behind us, slowly opened to reveal 200 red, wine, fuscia and pink roses scattered about the stage! On the last words of the song, "I love you..." he got down on one knee, presented me with the ring that I had only dared dream about, and asked me to marry him! He even made sure that it was videotaped, so now we have a DVD of the proposal to share with family, friends, and (one day) our children!

To start off, you should all know that I am in love with dogs! I can see a breed six blocks away and have it named. LOVE THEM! Last Christmas Darren decided to join my family in Kimberly, B.C. for the holidays because my family from Australia was in town. Now, we just bought a townhouse so couldn't afford huge gifts, so in lieu of gifts we decided to go on a guided dog sled tour through the mountains. I was sooo excited. The day was beautiful, bright, sunny with large fluffy flakes falling all around us. The tour took us through a golf course and around the mountains it was spectacular. We paused at the half-way point to take pictures of the area and with dogs. The tour guide (who had no idea what was coming) offered to take our photo with six of the huskies. I jumped at the opportunity! Darren and I posed for a few and when I stood up I turned around and Darren was on one knee with the ring out! I was so happy and excited I couldn't breath. Of course, I said yes. The best part was the tour guide still had our camera so he snapped step-by-step photos of the proposal. It was a great day!

He took one of my rings for sizing but claimed it had fallen in the heat vent in the bathroom. He came home with all the tools and ripped apart the bathroom vent in a show of finding my lost ring. Called me in to say he had found it and presented the engagement ring while down on his knee - and the bathroom vents torn apart to make it look good.

Ryan has always called me his princess. So on Easter, he’d given me a huge Disney chocolate princess and a basket full of chocolates. Inside, there was a Disney princess Kinder Surprise egg (which he knew I would go for first). When I opened the egg there was an amazing princess-cut diamond ring and my favorite song that he had written out. He’d taken the egg apart and put the ring inside and melted the egg back together. When I looked up he was on his knee and told me I was his princess and asked if I would marry him. It was perfect and thoughtful.

Wade proposed on my Birthday in November. Every year for my birthday he makes a scavenger hunt for me. This year he made a CD with the clues on it. I did not know but both my sisters also got CDs telling them to pick out certain words in certain clues (eg: 4th word 2nd clue), at the end they had written on four different sheets of paper "Will You Marry Me" and on the last clue they were told to give me the sheets. The last clue was to my ring that was on the dogs collar. It was very cute and very sweet I could not have asked for better! The best part is that my whole family got to be there and were all included in this amazing moment.

Jeff and I were out for dinner and we went for a walk afterwards until we had to cut it short because it was too cold. All night he was asking me if I had my purse or if he could have something out of my purse.  When we got home after our dinner and the freezing cold walk he asked if I could pass him my purse at which point he reached into the bag and pulled out a ring box.  While on one knee he told me I was the first girl he had ever told he loved and that he wanted me to be the last.  It was perfect, even if I did walk around with the ring unknowingly all night.

We had been dating for seven years and I moved to Spain for an exchange program for five months. Jamie came to visit me and was wanting to propose there in Spain but things didn't quite go as he planned. On the day that we both arrived back home in Toronto (he arrived an hour before I did) he was waiting at the terminal with all of my family. It was unbeliveable! I was not expecting to get engaged and especially not at the airport. It was awesome and the best part was that all my family were there. It was a memorable day and I can't wait to get married to Jamie. We will be getting married in September 2007! Jamie means everything to me, and I'm so excited to start our life together as husband and wife.

It was the first full day of our vacation in Maui, Hawaii. He took me to a secluded area on the beach that was surrounded by lava rocks that we found earlier that day. We sat and watched the gorgeous sun set and he told me that he couldn't refer to me as his girlfriend anymore because I am so much more than that to him. Then he pulled the ring box out and asked me to make him the happiest man alive and marry him. It was the best moment of my life.

My Fiance and I have known each other for 7 years. We met at the C.N.E (Canadian National Exhibition). As time passed we traveled to New York,Florida and Trinidad&Tobago. I thought that maybe there was a possible proposal, like every female would think. During the month of October I received a special weekend deal in Niagara Falls@The Embassey Suites Hotel. We went with my cousin and her boyfriend for a weekend getaway.

When we got to Niagara Falls and ate dinner, we went back to the hotel room and I asked him to take some pictures of me dressed up. He pulled out a Winnie the Pooh container and asked me to open it. Stupid me looked at it and put it down on the table...lol. He then said "Can you please open it,as it is different from the others that he previosly got me. I opened it in astonishment and couldn't believe it. The ring was around the Winnie the Pooh. I started to panic and needed to sit down. He went down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. (Heart was throbbing and I was shaking, he also had to get me water to drink...lol) I was in shock and of course took sometime to answer. Once I was a little calm, I finally said "Yes".

We are getting married Oct 2007 :)

We have been together since highschool. We have a 6 month old son together, he called me into our sons room on Christmas Eve, and with our son in his crib watching us, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

We were high school sweethearts. He took me back to our high school the evening of our eight year anniversary and brought me to the exact rock where I was sitting when we first saw each other. We were pretty much a case of love at first site. We started going out three days after meeting. He had me blindfolded on the way there and had me sit on the rock, when he uncovered my eyes he was on one knee in front of me, in the mud because it had been raining all day. He was so nervous that he forgot most of what he planned to say but I wouldn't have changed a thing!

My usually unromantic boyfriend performed a perfect re-creation of our first official date. On almost the same day, he took me to the same spot on the same hillside at Pinehurst Lake where we shared our first kiss. He was standing behind me, thrust the ring in front of me and said "I can't wait another second. Will you marry me?" I didn't suspect a thing! We stood there and giggled at each other for a good five minutes and both of us were shaking so much we couldn't get the ring on. Then he took me to a beautiful hotel room to shower and change clothes, then to meet our friends waiting with champagne at a nearby patio restaurant. It was perfect!

He planned an amazing trip to Arizona, and set me up to believe I had won the grand prize draw I had entered weeks earlier. We spent the whole summer talking about how lucky we were to have won such an incredible trip, and planning what we would do with our time away.

It wasn't until we were standing on our resort room's balcony, watching a lightning storm in the distant mountains, that he told me he had planned the entire trip himself to show me how much he loved me.

Everything from the ballots I filled out, to the waivers we had to sign, to the extras that were included, such as a day at the spa, were all part of the plan. It was such a surreal moment, and I know that his months of planning the perfect proposal for me are just the beginning of the amazing things to come in our life together.

My ring bears the inscription, "Celebrate we will..." and I could not imagine someone better to celebrate my life with.

Adam and I had been together for almost five years. During 2006 we were challenged with a few of life’s obstacles. We were excited to buy our first house together but then were set back when I was diagnosed with skin cancer. Adam stuck by me throughout my surgery and recovery. He was my rock. No matter what we met along our path we took it on together.

We had discussed marriage and he had always said that he would never propose in a common way. It would be something completely unexpected. This holiday season my Grandma and Aunt came in from Scotland to spend the holiday with us, as well as my brother coming up from the U.S. with his wife. My brother had not been home for Christmas in 4 years and my Grandma had not been here in 13 years. It was a great day, we had so much fun and good food. Just as the festivities were ending I turned around and saw Adam down on one knee. I was absolutely stunned. I could hardly speak. He said how much he loves me and would be honoured if I'd be his wife. I could hardly get the words out through my tears of joy. All the women in the house shared in my tears and excitement.

It was so great for it to be in front of such special people. My parents, my brother and sister-in-law, my 76-year-old Nana and my very special Aunt.

After some champagne, Adam told me that he did something traditional because I never would have expected him to propose that way. And he was right. It ended a rollercoaster year in the most amazing way.

We're now planning a 2008 wedding!

We planned a trip to India. We had been dating for over three years and he wanted me to meet his family. While we were there we did a lot of sight seeing including the Taj Mahal (the Monument of Love ).

While we were at the Taj Mahal, we decided to have a photographer take our picture in front on the Taj Mahal. While we were having our picture taken, he had the ring box beside him and I was absolutely clueless that he was about to propose.

The photographer asked us to do a different pose and my fiance stood up and turned around and got down on one knee, I was so surprised I did nothing but cry for a few minutes while everyone started to crowd around us and the photographer was still taking pictures the whole time, so we have the entire proposal in scene by scene pictures, with the Taj Mahal in the back ground.

Well, after dating for almost four years, we both had found that being together during the holidays was something of a must. Being that his family is eight hours away, he chose to go home for Christmas three days early. Before he left, he handed me a CD that was supossed to be viewed before Christmas. As I sat and watched pictures of our years spent together flashing on the computer screen, I sobbed at the loneliness during this holiday. I couldn't believe he wasn't going to be there for Christmas. I couldn't believe how beautiful this CD was and realized I had the best boyfriend ever.

Christmas morning he phoned me from his cell phone saying he was opening presents at Grampa’s and is using his cell phone outside because it was too noisy inside. Little did I know he was an hour and half away from my house. Later, he and his mom showed up at my house bearing gifts and Christmas Cheer.

Thinking that this was the most amazing present ever, it wasn't done. He had stuffed me a stocking which he never has done so I was so impressed. As I emptied my stocking piece by piece I felt a small ring box at the bottom, my heart pounding faster, I took it out, looked around, opened it and.... ha ha, nice joke, out pops a Hershey’s Kiss. Looking around at everyone (mom, dad, brother, sister-in-law, and his mom ) I laughed and said nice joke. As I turned back toward my boyfriend, he got up, walked across the livingroom, got down on bended knee and infront of everyone, PROPOSED!

I couldn't even say yes I was crying so hard, so a nod it was. After my brother saying that a nod won't hold up in court, I sqeeked a tiny yes and that was that. My Christmas in a nut shell.

Well mine wasn’t "interesting" it was just uber-romantic...

We planned on going to NYC so I thought he was going to do it there but he decided he wanted to surprise me, so he did it the weekend before we went away at his cottage - at a bon fire under the stars. He had the most amazing proposal speech. I was bawling. Then we went inside and he had champagne and roses and we just stared at my ring for about an hour and drank champagne. Then he said he had another surprise - he had invited both of our families up to the cottage the next day so we could all celebrate and go out for dinner! It was so exciting. And finally, when I thought the night was over, we went to bed and there were flower petals all over the bed, candles everywhere, four long-stemmed roses - one for each year we'd been together, and a card.

It was amazing. It felt like a dream. I am so lucky.

I actually didn't really know how romantic FH was until he proposed.

He knows I really LOVE mountains and snow so last Christmas, we went to Montreal to visit family and friends and we had talked about going snowboarding in St-Sauveur for a day while we were in QC. On the way to Sauveur, he looked like he was going to be sick - LITERALLY! I thought he was really nervous because he's not used to snowboarding or skiing.

So we did a few runs and at one point, I turn around and he wasn’t there. I was a little annoyed because it was dark and we didn't have cell phones on us. Anyway, I finally found him sitting down by a lamp post, so I went up to him and he said he was hurt. Next thing I knew, he was on one knee asking me to marry him. I felt like I was in a fairy tale! It was so awesome, being with my sweetie, surrounded by snow and snowy trees. We both teared up (OK, I was balling my eyes out), it was so sweet. When we left the mountain, it was snowing, it was absolutely beautiful.

It was nice that he proposed over the holidays because we got to see family and friends on New Year's Eve and announce our engagement in person.

I am a travel agent and planned a cruise for my best friend to get married in Grand Caymen along with my fiance and I and a bunch of our friends.
On the first night of the cruise my fiance wanted to go to the top deck of the cruise ship to gaze at the stars and when I turned around he was down on one knee with a beauitful speech. It was so romantic and I bawled, of course. Turns out some people had noticed what he was doing and had ordered a bottle of champagne for us so we sat out there all night and just enjoyed the moment.

I've got a pretty good story...

He proposed on Christmas day 2005 in front of his entire family. In his family everyone opens up their gifts one by one, saving the "biggest" presents for last and it takes hours. Well, every year I'd hope for a proposal but had already gotten the idea out of my head because I didn't think it would happen (even though we just had our six year anniversary, so I was getting pretty antsy).

Well, we get down to the final gifts and it turns out I am last. There is a huge box for me, so I was sure it wasn't a ring. Then I open it and there are a bunch of small wrapped gifts inside that each have a note attached. He said "They are in no particular order except you have to open that one last.” Okay, so I grab the first one and the note says "Because you put a song in my heart" and I open the gift and it's a CD he made for me of all our favorite love songs. Then there are four more gifts including a candybar with a note saying "Because you're the sweetest girl I know" and a one pound weight with a note saying "Because you make me stronger" (awww - I was totally teary at this point).
Then I get to what I think is the last box, and the note says "Because you make me feel warm and fuzzy" and inside is a BATHROBE I had asked for. So, everyone is totally confused and he says, "Wait, you have to try it on." I do and lo-and-behold, the ring is in the front pocket of the bathrobe! I immediately start sobbing, and everyone starts cheering and jumping up and down.

We got married seven-and-a-half months later. I don't know how he'll ever top that Christmas gift!
