For those of you who’ve never heard of a gift-opening party, it’s exactly what you think it would be—a party that occurs after the wedding where you and your groom open all your wedding gifts in front of family and friends. The gift-opening party usually takes place during or after your post-wedding day brunch (another optional gathering). It’s usually a very informal and casual event that takes place at your house, your parents’ house or your in-laws’ place—wherever the gifts have been placed. Although it isn’t necessary, and not widely practiced, it’s an easy and great way to show your appreciation for what you’ve received and to say thanks to those who are in attendance. Keep in mind, if you feel uncomfortable about opening your presents in front of many people (especially if you’re not that close), you can always save your gift-opening for later in the evening when only your nearest and dearest (bridal party and family) are there, this way they can assist you by taking note of who gave what (great for writing thank-you cards later on).
