About the Couple
Bride: Jovana Petkovic
Groom: Daniel MacDonald
Occupations: Jovana is a recent grad, and Daniel is starting a new shoe company in Hong Kong.
How they met: They’ve been close family friends since they were young. But they reconnected at Daniel’s grandmother’s 80th birthday party.
Faves dates: They’re constant travelers; they love traveling around, especially to South America, Europe and North America.
Engagement story: Daniel actually proposed to her parents first. Her mom was a breeze, but Daniel spoke to the father for about two hours before he asked Jo. Daniel proposed to Jovana in Muskoka on the Lake Joseph-side dock of his cottage. The whole family was there and they were all waiting in the house. Apparently everybody knew—except for Jovana—that Daniel was proposing.

The Wedding Day
Wedding date: June 23, 2007
Guests: 300
Motif: A mix of old Hollywood and Moroccan.
Her best moment: “The church and ceremony.”
His best moment: “Walking out of the church with Jo.”
Wedding song: “Blowers Daughter” by Damien Rice. The couple both loved the song and there was the significance behind the choice.

Fave wedding details: The music. The couple had a pipe organ and 14-voice children’s choir at the church. At the reception they were greeted with a Pipa player, and during cocktail hour there was a Latin band. For the dinner music, there was a swing-shift big band as well as a Serbian band, plus a samba squad, 16-piece Brazilian drummers and three DJs!
Her best surprise: “Daniel’s speech at the reception was incredible and the most memorable. He said the most beautiful speech I have ever heard. He did an amazing job!”
Honeymoon: We had a mini-moon after we got engaged and went to French Polynesia, Bora Bora and Moorea. After the wedding, we wanted to keep on celebrating, so with 36 of our closest friends we went to Daniel’s house in the Dominican Republic.
The day in three words: Most incredible day!
