You're having continuous nightmares of huge underarm stains on your gown by the time you say I do. Don't bead up-there is help, available at your local pharmacy or dermatologist, depending on the severity of sweat protection you need. Here's the latest on the greatest perspiration remedies.
Traditional Antiperspirants
They've come a long way since the aerosol formula your mother probably wore on her wedding day. Today's glide-ons not only provide superior sweat control, but are good for the skin, too. Dove's newest line of antiperspirants ($4 and up, available at drugstores across Canada), not only keep you dry, they actually act as a moisturizer for delicate underarm skin. The company has also created a hypoallergenic line, safe to use on freshly waxed or shaved skin.
At the Pharmacy
If you need added sweat protection, try Drysol ($18), an over-the-counter deodorant geared to stop perspiration in its tracks. Aluminum is the ingredient most antiperspirants contain to prevent sweating-Drysol has a higher concentration of it. "This antiperspirant is used when sweating starts affecting your quality of life," says pharmacist Veronique Koo of pharmacy.ca. If this sounds like you, book an appointment with your dermatologist to have your problem professionally diagnosed and treated.
The Botox Solution
How do you think those Academy Award nominees keep their cool on the red carpet? It's Botox baby! It's not just for furrows and frown lines: Botox can be injected into the sweat glands in the underarm area to prevent perspiration. Botox has proven effective and safe in the treatment of sweating, with the effects of an injection lasting between six to 12 months. Expect to pay anywhere from $400 to $500 for a hit.
