Magic Moments

What’s the most romantic thing he’s ever done? We asked our online community and this is what they shared.

“One night I came home from work and found a note on the door that read "Welcome to Paradise Island.” I walked in and saw an entire area in our house lit with candles with romantic tunes playing in the background. My future husband then served me a home-made pasta dinner with red wine and we spent the night on our own private island. Every once in awhile when things get rough, he’ll ask me if I want to visit our private island to reconnect.”

“My birthday came just after we moved to Hong Kong. My husband had to miss it for a business trip so he set up a scavenger hunt to find the world's "silliest birthday card.” He emailed me a map to a hidden note, which led me to a local florist where a beautiful bouquet was waiting for me—with another note. This one sent me to a spa for a hot-stone massage. The spa handed me the next note, which took me to the Four Seasons on Victoria Harbour, where the concierge told me to order anything I wanted. My next note took me home, where I found instructions to go to our local video store and rent a movie. The video store had another note for me, which said to take myself for dinner. I finally found the "world’s silliest birthday card”—a dog riding a motorcycle. It was an inside joke!”

“He asked me to come over to his place. When I got there, he had emptied out an old room-mate’s room and turned it into a private dining room with candles and home-made dinner. He even covered the ceiling with balloons! I thought this was just for decoration but then he handed me a stick with a pin on the end and told me to pop every balloon. Hidden inside each balloon was a reason for why he loved me.”

“When my husband and I first started dating, he had me come over to his place one rainy afternoon. He told me to wear a sundress. When I got there, in the den he had a picnic set up with a beautiful blanket on the floor, candles, the works. He had made us sandwiches and a pasta salad and we sat down and had a romantic indoor picnic. It was beautiful!”

“He writes love notes on my eggs! We like our boiled eggs done to different “doneness” and once the eggs are in the pot, it's hard to tell whose is whose. So my future husband writes little messages on mine in pencil to tell them apart. I love that it's such a small atypical gesture that has become our little thing.”

“Our first Valentine's Day together, I walked into my house and noticed that there were chocolate kisses leading up the stairs to the bathroom. They led straight to the bathtub. When I pulled the shower curtain back, there were a dozen roses with a note that read: 'I wanted to kiss the ground you walk on and shower you with roses. Happy Valentine's Day! Love Brian.'”
