Is a grand four-tier wedding cake not really your style? We suggest knocking down a few layers—literally. For simplicity’s sake, consider investing in a chic one-tier cake similar to this treat from Miette Pâtisserie & Confiserie (miettecakes.com). If you’re afraid the cake won’t feed all your guests, ask your cake designer to create three one-tiered cakes in a variety of styles and flavours, which makes for a great visual display at your sweets table. Bonus: if you’re on a tight budget, opting for three one-layered cakes sometimes ends up being cheaper than a stacked three-layer cake.

My fiance and I are on a tight budget for our big day, so we opted to have a small one or two tiered cake for ourselves/cake cutting/pictures and we are buying a couple of large slab cakes for our guests (we are having approximately 100). Large fancy cakes are just not in our budget! :)
