Beautifying the likes of celebrities such as Kate Moss, Cameron Diaz and Britney Spears is all in a day’s work for makeup artist and beauty representative for The Body Shop Chase Aston. I recently had the opportunity to watch him at work as he transformed two models from ho-hum to wow! Here are his nine tips to get W-day makeup perfection:
1. Go classic. If you are going to follow a runway trend, then dilute it. You don’t want to look like someone else on your W-day. Fresh and feminine hues work best. Try: The Body Shop’s Eye Colour Line Extentions ($14 each) in Baby Pink or Velvet Green.
2. Don’t use pencil. While there’s nothing wrong with a smoky eye, forgo a pencil and instead smudge a dark grey eyeshadow along your lashline for a softer look. Better yet, for an all-night hold, add a little water and make your own liquid liner.
3. Mix powder and cream blush. After you dust your blush brush with product, twirl it over a cream blush stick before you apply. Doing so will help lock in colour and give you just enough shimmer. Try: The Body Shop’s Brush-On Radiance stick ($21, available in January).
4. Don’t experiment. Your wedding is not the time to try a new trend or product. Besides the horrific possibility of your skin reacting negatively, you won’t know how it will look on you!
5. Go through a trial run. This will eliminate any potential allergic reactions to products and give you a chance to communicate with your makeup artist exactly what you want.
6. Control shine. First, start with an oil-free moisturizer to help control blemishes and shine. Throughout the day continue to limit excess shine with facial blotting papers. They’re great because you’re getting rid of oil, not makeup.
7. Mist. Having an outdoor summer wedding? Then consider using a facial mist to help you refresh. A little spritz after your makeup is applied will not only give you a dewy look, it will help seal in product. Try: The Body Shop’s Vitamin E Mist ($16).
8. Pump up volume at night. Stick to a fresh and flirty look for the day, but don’t be afraid to amp up the drama at night. This can be as simple as swapping for a deeper lipstick shade or layering on another shade of eyeshadow. You’re going to have to do touch-ups anyway, so why not intensify your current look while you’re at it?
9. Wear waterproof mascara. No one wants panda eyes at their wedding, so avoid that possibility altogether by wearing a waterproof mascara. Even if you’re not a crier, other elements like sweat and humidity can wreck havoc on your makeup.
