Looking for a way to prolong the honeymoon phase? Let your honeymoon location inspire your choice of home decor. By infusing your newlywed pad with mementos from exotic locales, you’ll constantly be reminded of some of the best days of your life together (without dragging out the photo album!). Plus, your guests will appreciate it a lot more than a slide show. We’ve been inspired by four of our favourite honeymoon destinations, so read on to find out how to bring your honeymoon style home.
1. France. When we think of France, particularly Provence and other parts of the South, we think of vast fields of lavender, cheery sunflowers and luxurious outdoor dining. Therefore, our recipe for a French abode is simple: set an elegant table with bright, patterned linens, a vase of freshly cut flowers and some lavender-scented candles; then dine on a delectable lunch or dinner pour deux.
2. Bermuda. It’s easy to be inspired by the land of pink sand and turquoise water! Use these tranquil pastel shades as a starting point, and transform your bedroom with a coat of aquamarine paint on the walls, and some soft rosy-hued bed linens. Also, since Bermuda is known for its world-class snorkelling, consider installing an aquarium of some sort. Beautifully coloured tropical fish are a great home accent, and make low-commitment pets!
3. Greece. For a space with Grecian charm, envision whitewashed walls and bright shades of blue. Why not try this colour scheme in the kitchen: pale, sun-bleached cabinets look stunning against a deep blue backsplash. For some old-world appeal, add architectural elements in the form of sculptures or candlesticks shaped like columns; and pay homage to Greece’s incredible artistic and cultural history.
4. Africa. Express your inner wild thing with a living room reminiscent of a romantic African honeymoon lodge. Opt for rough-hewn wooden furniture and crisp white linens accented by animal print throw pillows. Incorporate meaningful souvenirs and artifacts collected on your travels, such as unique tribal masks.
