So many places, but you can only choose one for your honeymoon. Where to go, where to go? This is exactly what we asked travel expert Brenda Hanson, a destination wedding and honeymoon planner with Toronto’s Goliger’s Travel Plus. Here’s what she shared.
Weddingbells: What are five of the most popular places Canadian couples choose for their honeymoons?
Brenda Hanson: “Greece is very popular because it has so many islands, each with their own unique features. I recommend a stop in Athens for a city stay, then moving on to the islands. Santorini is one of my favourite places because it has such wonderful views and inviting hotels, many specializing in honeymoons. Paris is always fashionable—it’s such a romantic city with intimate boutique hotels, incredible galleries, museums, restaurants, history and shopping. For a more tropical getaway, Bali is a very big exotic destination. It’s surrounded by beaches and home to such diverse culture and gracious people. Another bonus in Bali: the climate is mild and balmy year-round. For a beach with a cosmopolitan twist, Rio is definitely hot hot hot! And the Caribbean, of course, continues to be incredibly popular with more and more couples opting for luxury island properties.”
WB: What are your suggestions for a couple looking to plan an ultra-luxurious honeymoon?
BH: “The Maldives, African Safari and anywhere in the South Pacific are all destinations that will make for the ultimate dream honeymoon.”
WB: Is there anywhere registering on your travel radar as an up-and-coming honeymoon hot spot?
BH: “Yes, I have a few places I think are very hot and very now: Vietnam, Central America and Chile.”
WB: Our statistics at Weddingbells indicate couples are spending just over $4,000 on their honeymoons. Do you agree this is a reasonable sum to budget for?
BH: “I would actually target higher, especially if you are looking to really splash out. I recommend a beautiful 10-day honeymoon, meaning couples should budget more in the neighbourhood of $8,000.”

Can you recommend any travel agencies that specialize in honeymoons outside of Europe, NA and the Caribbean, for Canadians? I have been searching high and low but coming up fairly empty handed for the most part and when I do find one, I am not sure what the reputation is as i've never heard of it. Ideally I'd love to go to SE Asia or the South Pacific... I'm thinking Thailand, Bali or the Cook Islands, Fiji, etc. - but want to be able to see what my options are package wise!
Additionally what would a Canadian on a middle of the road budget (so not top price but not backpacking either) need to have a honeymoon in Bali, Thailand or Fiji? What are reasonable budgets for this without draining our entire life savings to accommodate it?
Thanks!
