Thankfully it's easier than ever to find beauty products that will not only make you look gorgeous for your big day, but are also good to Mother Earth. From producing to packaging, companies are finding ways to incorporate earth-friendly practices into their creations. Here are all the green facts, so when it comes time to hit the beauty counter for your W-day essentials, you’re in the know.
1. Organic
This word has been popping up on beauty brands everywhere; however not all of them live up to their claims! Your best bet: read the ingredients. If a product is organic you will never see ingredients like formaldehyde, nitrosamines, polyethylene and titanium dioxide on the label. All these ingredients have been linked with a risk of cancer. Simply stated, organic products mean all-natural.

2. Mineral
While it seems new, the concept of using minerals in makeup dates back to the Egyptians. Today, the main difference between mineral makeup and traditional over-the-counter brands is that mineral makeup is made from natural minerals such as zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, mica and iron oxide. As well, true mineral makeup contains no artificial colours, oils, perfumes, preservatives or talc.

3. Eco-Friendly
When a product claims to be eco-friendly the company is saying there have been no harmful effects to our natural environment and its inhabitants. There are three main ways a company can make this claim. One, if a company uses “green” manufacturing practices, like wind power, in its production process. Two, if they use natural or botanical ingredients in their products. Three, if they enclose their products in biodegradable packaging.

4. Botanical
Ingredients found in botanical products are derived from nature—specifically plants. Thanks to so many advances in plant biology, scientists have been able to bottle some of the amazing healing properties found in the natural world. Like some organic claims, not all products with botanical ingredients are truly eco-friendly, so if you really want to go au naturel read the labels.
