Preparing a sit-down dinner can be intimidating, especially if you’re less than sure about your culinary skills. Luckily, there are all kinds of great ways to entertain your friends and family without slaving over the stove for hours.
Take fondue, for example. First gaining popularity in the 1970s, fondue is experiencing a resurgence of sorts and for good reason - it’s an easy, no muss way to feed your guests!
Preparation can be done ahead of time (think chopping vegetables, cutting up bread into bite-size pieces and arranging fruit on a platter) and cleanup is a cinch. Cheese fondue is an absolute classic, especially Swiss, while chocolate is a definite crowd-pleaser. However, you can also cook beef, chicken and fish in a fondue pot simply by adding olive or vegetable oil. And the bonus is, your guests will be cooking their own meal (they can decide whether they want medium rare or well done). Communal dishes encourage socializing, so fondue is a great way for guests to get to know one another.
Add some wine and good conversation, and you’re well on your way to a smashing soiree!
