Indeed, according to our recent Weddingbells survey, the average amount most of you are willing to spend on your dress is $1,028. That being said, there are plenty of ways to find the dress of your dreams on a budget. From bargain hunting to borrowing, here are our tips on finding your perfect fit for less.
Point and Click
Not only is internet shopping convenient (imagine shopping for your dress from the comfort of home!), it’s also a great way to access some unbelievable deals. You’d be surprised how many amazing, brand-new gowns are going for a song on the web, often because a bride-to-be simply changed her mind. Well-known sites like eBay offer a plethora of choices, while Craigslist and Kijiji abound with ads from brides looking to sell. If you have a specific style in mind, it might be worth posting a listing of your own on one of these sites―you just might meet your sartorial match!
Bargain Hunt
Sample sales are definitely not for the faint of heart (sharpen your claws, ladies!), but when it comes to finding designer dresses for less, they can’t be beat. Our advice? Come prepared. Scope out the store ahead of time, and hit the racks with a clear idea of what you’re looking for. More importantly, dress the part. Comfort is essential, and you may have to try gowns on over your clothes.

For instance, if you’ve always dreamed of a lace gown, look for one with minimal beading and embroidery and forgo fancy French lace for a more affordable variety. Also, don’t hesitate to ask whether a gown you like is available in a different fabric or with less embellishment.

Finding a dress for under $1000 is definitely a possibility! I purchased my wedding Dress for $500 at a consignment store. It was originally $750, we bargained and paid cash with no tax! What a great deal!

Here's a tip: BRIDESMAID DRESSES!
I know I know, but hear me out: you can find identical wedding and bridesmaid's dresses. In all likely-hood, the bride's is over a thousand while the bridesmaid's is under 500. My bridal gown cost $190 brand new. It's a beautiful satin, mermaid-style, floor-length, strapless ivory gown that fits like it was poured on. I LURVE it. Buy the bridesmaid's dress in white or ivory and get a seamstress to embellish it with some beading, overlay, or lace applique. It might not be an official "bridal" gown, but the cost won't be "bridal" either.

I got mine at Your White Dress at $299 plus taxes. It's a brand new wedding gown and I never thought I could get something so beautiful for that price. All their gowns are at that price, so I didn't wonder if I could afford something elaborate. Highly recommended if you don't need it to be the latest style. But their gowns are timeless. I went in wanting something simple but came out with a "princess" gown by a name brand and it looks pretty amazing. I found the dress after I tried on three other gowns.
