With fall come the lists of what’s hot now. Here’s my wedding It List for the season. By Alison McGill

There’s a whiff of crispness in the air, which means fall has officially arrived, and it’s time to accept that the dog days of summer are well behind us. Everyone I know touts autumn as their favourite season—it most certainly is mine. With the goodness that is fall comes a wave of fresh and exciting trends, which encompasses everything from fashion to home and yes, weddings, of course. Someone recently asked me what my forecast for the fall/winter wedding season was. My answer: gorgeous with a chance of major fabulousness! Here are my five favourite trends:

1. Grand gowns. There are so many choices when it comes to wedding dresses, but whatever style you choose, make sure it makes a major statement. Some big trends seen recently on bridal fashion runways (and featured in the Fall & Winter issue of Weddingbells): lace, mini-dresses, floral accents and ballgowns. Another big trend we love is Grecian-style gowns. This style looks amazing on, is incredibly sexy, and is flattering to many figures.

2. Grey. This cool colour is hip for wedding fashions for you and your mister. Grooms outfitted in classic grey suits look modern and fresh; bridal gowns with a platinum tinge look luxe; and grey in shades from dove grey to gunmetal are huge for bridesmaids’ dresses. This very modern option is totally in step with fashion.

3. White florals. White blooms look clean and beautiful and match any wedding style and any season. We love mixing shades of white—from cream tones to pure whites—in your floral arrangements. White blooms that we think look particularly gorgeous for bouquets and centrepieces this season—roses, ranunculi, orchids, anemones, calla lilies and hydrangeas.

4. Relaxed hair. The days of the severe bridal updo are gone. The best bridal hair today is soft, pretty and touchable. That could mean wearing hair long and loose, or in a loosely fastened chignon so that hair looks "lived in." Check out Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester at the Emmy Awards—she rocked a perfect, undone updo.

5. Destination weddings. This is a major trend that continues to gain momentum. This party option allows you to combine your wedding and honeymoon into one and take your party to an exotic location. If you don’t already have it, the Fall & Winter 2009 issue of Weddingbells is largely dedicated to destination parties, and you can also check this exclusive Destination Wedding guide.
