Professional colour services can cost you a pretty penny (as much as $200 for highlights!) and may not be in your wedding budget. That doesn't mean you have to go without—today's at-home colour kits can give you results that look salon fresh, for a fraction of the price.
"Home colour is easy to use and you are able to achieve a lot of effects with it," reports Sarah Kemp, manager of hair colour education for Proctor & Gamble. "Systems are quick to apply, don’t drip or run and deliver brilliant results," says Kemp.
To get the most from your home colour, Kemp offers these five tips:
1. Be realistic. Choose a shade within two shades of your natural colour. For instance, if you are medium blond, you could switch to light brown or light blond.
2. Test for allergies. Never underestimate the importance of this step! The last thing you need to worry about is a skin reaction.
3. Phone a friend. If you are worried that you might miss a patch at the back of your head, have a friend apply the product for you to ensure even distribution.
4. Follow instructions. Do exactly what the package says and you will avoid any disasters.
5. Don't panic. Should something go wrong, stay calm and call the manufacturer's hotline to speak with a pro who will help get you back on track. Chances are your colour can be easily corrected, and the pro will tell you how to do it.
