City Slickers

Toni Brem and Daniel Mullen, September 22, 2007, Toronto. By Sara Duck

About the Couple
Bride: Toni Brem
Groom: Daniel Robert Mullen
Occupations: They both work in marketing. Dan is more of a strategy and numbers marketer, while Toni’s focus is on brand partnerships, sponsorships and media relations.
How they met: At a Christmas party eight years ago.
Fave date: Brit pop night at the El Mocambo—they danced until two in the morning and then spent the rest of the night talking in Trinity Bellwoods Park. The sun was rising as their date ended.
What attracted him to her: “Great dancer!”
What attracted her to him: “Toni was the most beautiful girl in the room and full of positive energy.”
Engagement story: They went for a hike at Rattlesnake Point near Milton, Ontario, on a beautiful autumn day, and once they were alone on the trail Dan got down on one knee and proposed.

The Wedding Day
Wedding date: September 22, 2007
Guests: 88 (very lucky number for Toni!)
Motif: No theme —the focus was on great food, wine and music, and our closest family and friends.
Her best moment: “Speaking in front of family and friends, with Dan by my side, and telling everyone how important they all were in our lives.”
His best moment: “Standing in front of so many good friends and family at the old schoolhouse in anticipation of Toni’s arrival, and watching her walk down the aisle towards me. “

What they would do differently: “Nothing—we’re not fans of the shoulda’ coulda’ wouldas’,” Toni smiles.
Advice to others: “It’s your day—ensure that your wedding is a reflection of you, not what others have in mind for you,” Toni says.
Wedding song: “High Tide, Low Tide” by Bob Marley.
Fave gift: “A canoe—our friends pooled together at our wedding shower to contribute to this amazing gift,” Toni says.
Fave wedding detail: “The yellow love-seat Dan and I sat on for our family pictures,” Toni says. “This idea was actually borrowed from my colleague, Jacquelyn Francis”
Most unexpected moment: “The amazing video that Dan’s sister Sue, and our friend Darby, put together,” Toni reports. “Darby is a producer at CBC’s The Hour and the video opened with our very own “Bio” introductions voiced by George Strombopolis. The photos, the music and the hilarious intro segments with sock puppets were brilliant. Sue even mocked a “Weddingbunny” cover in tribute of my job at Weddingbells.
Honeymoon: “Dan’s family flew in from Alberta, so we didn’t want to jet away,” Toni says. “We rented a cottage on Lorimer Lake in Parry Sound, and the Alberta gang joined us. We’re having a three-week trip to South East Asia in December. We’ll be spending Christmas in Thailand and New Year with friends in Hong Kong.”
The day in three words: Best day ever!
