Cayman Islands “I Dos”

Want to get married in this tropical paradise? Tips and tricks on how to do it in style from the islands’ premiere wedding planners. By Alison McGill

“The Cayman Islands have become one of the front-runners for discerning couples seeking a premiere location for a stylish and unique wedding,” says JoAnne Brown, founder of Grand Cayman’s Celebrations, Ltd. (celebrationsltd.com), who was recently named one of the six “Fairy Godmothers” of destination weddings by Travel + Leisure magazine. “The cuisine, accommodations and services are second to none and are on par with the best anywhere in the world.”

The postcard-perfect location of the Cayman Islands, of course, is also pretty hard to beat. With three islands to choose from (Grand Cayman, Little Cayman and Cayman Brac), you can have exactly the tropical locale you want, from luxe to quiet and serene, or romantic and rustic. To learn more about having an event in the islands, we quizzed Brown and her team of experts about how to plan the perfect Cayman destination wedding.

Weddingbells: How do you work with couples to plan their destination weddings?

JoAnne Brown: “We receive inquiries from couples all over the globe who want to come to our islands to get married. It all starts by getting in touch with us, and then the planning begins! Our wedding planners build a rapport with the bride and groom so they can then begin to create a wedding that truly reflects their personalities. We can plan an event in two weeks or two years, it all depends what the couple wants. We help them choose a venue, and then we work on the design and decor. We suggest vendors and assist them with any other special services they may need, such as rehearsal dinners, excursions and boat trips.”

WB: What are some of the most popular places to get married in the Cayman Islands?

JB: “There are so many choices between the three islands! It really depends what you are looking for. Ahmed Elkaswani, who is one of our event planners, has three favourites to suggest: The Westin Casuarina Resort & Spa, Grand Cayman, Papagallos and Grand Cayman Beach Suites. The Westin (westin.com) is a gorgeous hotel offering a variety of scenic locations (i.e. the beach, the gardens or a magnificent ballroom) for the perfect wedding. Papagallo (pappagallo.ky) is a wonderful restaurant that offers a truly unique venue in a tropical setting. The staff is fantastic and the food is amazing. Lastly, Grand Cayman Beach Suites (grand-cayman-beach-suites.com) is located on Seven Mile Beach and also boasts a beautiful sun terrace facing onto the beach. The food here is also divine.”

WB: Tell us about one of the most memorable weddings Celebrations has planned.

JB: “We had a beautiful wedding last May. A couple from Michigan had a gorgeous wedding on Seven Mile Beach. The couple had 40 guests and everything was pink, including the bride’s shoes! The ceremony was on the roof of the Hyatt Hotel, which has a million-dollar view. The guests had fun, danced the night away and, of course, the setting was amazing.”
