Top Five Themes

Inspiring ideas for wedding day themes that will help you focus your efforts. By Roseanne Dela Rosa

Are your wedding details overwhelming you? Choosing a theme will help narrow down your details. Here are some ideas to get you started.

Favourite Memory: Celebrate your big day by reliving your most cherished moments. Some brides pay tribute to how they first met their future husbands. For example, if you met your partner at the beach you might want to incorporate a seaside theme. Whatever you choose, you will be enough new memories to last a lifetime.

Family Roots: Infuse your day with a little pizzazz by taking your guests back to your homeland—not literally of course. Add some Asian flavour by incorporating chopsticks, lanterns and various other appropriate details. Wow the crowd by picking an ethnicity and blending this culture into your theme.

Shared Activity/Hobby: Weddings are meant to be enlightening and meaningful for you and your future hubby. Don’t include things just because they’re the latest vogue; rather plan your day around an activity that you both enjoy. If both of you frequent the golf course most weekends and a even few times during vacations, then have a golf-themed evening by decorating with golfing details on your centerpiece, invitations and more. Why not have a putting green on site where when a guest gets a hole-in-one, the couple must kiss. Even simple details such as colour (green) and tools (golf balls and bag) can make a statement.

In Style: Who ever said that every wedding must be the traditional white? If you’re a retro chick host a modern-day party by having your bridesmaid’s sashay down the aisle in funky colours. Or choose a historical period such as the Renaissance or the Victorian era and for a blast from the past.

'Tis the Season: Some prefer the blistering coldness while others prefer the smoldering heat. Whatever the season, have your wedding based on your favourite holiday or time of year. If you absolutely adore V-day then hand out cinnamon hearts as your favours. For a winter theme include ice sculptures or work with white or silver colour scheme. Celebrating your day with festive flair will definitely impress your guests.
