Your mister’s wedding-day ensemble might seem pretty straightforward compared to yours—it’s just a suit, right?—but the details (tie, cufflinks, shoes) can really make it (or break it). The buzz on the menswear beat is that bow ties are back in a big way, although some have argued they were never actually out of fashion. Indeed, bow ties originated in the 17th century and have been worn by many great men since then, most notably Winston Churchill, Humphrey Bogart and Frank Sinatra to name a few. More recently, dapper leading men on shows such as Gossip Girl and Mad Men have definitely propelled the bow tie to the forefront once more. A classic black or white bow tie is perfect paired with a traditional tux, but bright colours and bold patterns can look equally nice worn with a neutral-coloured suit. WB tip: if your other half has never donned a bow tie before, be kind and get him one that comes pre-tied. Goodness knows he’ll be nervous enough on the day of the wedding!
