Blast from the Past

The latest trend in registry items? Patterns derived from a bygone era. By Nicole Keen

Believe it or not, the hottest registry items of the moment are actually straight from the past. Many manufacturers have combed their archives for retired patterns that evoke a kinder, gentler era, or at the very least happy memories of time spent in grandma’s kitchen! For instance, in honour of Corningware’s 50th anniversary, they have re-launched their iconic Blue Cornflower Stove Top set, first released in the 1950s. These old favourites are durable and convenient (a meal can be prepared, served and stored all in one dish!)—a welcome addition to any home. Another great retro-chic collection is Harlequin by Wedgwood (pictured), which features six unique patterns inspired by previously existing designs. The quirky, charming cups and saucers are designed with mixing and matching in mind, so slip them in with your brand-new Kate Spade dishes or your family heirloom pieces. Best of all, they’re packaged in decorative hat boxes, making them ideal bridesmaids’ gifts!

Corningware is available at Wal-Mart stores. Wedgwood is available at William Ashley (williamashley.com).
