Fun Wedding Presentations

Create something new with multimedia-friendly wedding presentations. By Viviane Kertesz

Your path to marriage has been a unique adventure. You wish to share the story of your romance for those guests not a part of your day-to-day lives, but how do you do this in an interesting and unique way? If you’re considering showing a personalized audio-visual presentation at your wedding day celebration, think multimedia, and think fun.

Luddites beware: Gone are the days of single-image, clicker-operated slide shows—modern digital presentation options are virtually limitless. Now, instead of projecting a solitary image onscreen set to a homemade soundtrack of favourite songs, you can take advantage of technology’s newest offerings to blend many elements of sight and sound into a seamless, sensational sensory experience.

If you're not a DIYer, try Memory Box Productions (memoryboxproductions.ca), a Toronto-based company at the forefront of this technology. As opposed to a home video-style, their custom-designed concept combines mixed media—still photographs, images, music, script, voiceovers and the spoken word—to showcase an animated version of a couple's coming together. Using Flash, Powerpoint and Photoshop, along with techniques like fades, motion tweening and dissolves, they can create a personalized story of your engagement to share at your wedding. "It's not a cookie-cutter format," says Evan Alden, co-owner of Memory Box Productions. "Whether you want to show a funnier side or explore something more romantic, it's a lovely keepsake to show kids down the road, and a far more heartfelt way to remember the day than just flipping through a one-dimensional photo album."

A typical presentation, which usually starts at around $1,500 and lasts five to 15 minutes, can include a montage of the bride-to-be and her groom growing up over the years to the present, cutting to baby pics, and fading into their photos merging…all set to the bridal couple's favourite music. Often, this piece de resistance is played before the delivery of speeches, in the middle of dinner as a focus feature, or looped on a continuous spool in a background corner at the reception as a conversation piece. And when the wedding day is over, both wedding and honeymoon footage can be added to the CD-Rom or DVD presentation to create a digital album souvenir that is reflective of the entire day's festivities. What could be a more timeless memento for the years to come?
