For so long, a groom's only duty in planning the wedding day has been to organize the honeymoon. Now, more and more grooms want to get in on the wedding-planning action—and today's busy brides welcome the help. While it’s unlikely your beloved will have anywhere near the enthusiasm you do, there are lots of ways to get him involved. Below are some hints for every man: from the hands-off honey to the Colin Cowie wannabe.
Divide and Conquer
Face it, you’ll have a greater success rate if you assign your guy tasks he actually wants to do. Draw up a list of wedding chores and have a chat about what he’s willing to take on. Creating the soundtrack, choosing the wedding ride or picking the bar selections are great choices for a “guy’s guy”—and he may actually have fun! Just don’t let him take all the glamourous jobs while you get stuck with the grunt work. Divvy up your list so there’s a fair breakdown.
A Little Bit of Togetherness
Entice him with couple time. Make a date of shopping for wedding supplies by including a nice lunch or an afternoon espresso. Order take-out and rent a season of The Sopranos as background entertainment while the two of you assemble favours. By adding some extra you time, the end result is a less-reluctant (if not outright enthusiastic) groom, stuffing envelopes in no time.
Use His Strong Suit
If your guy has a special talent, take advantage. Gary, an art director and a recent groom, designed all of his wedding stationery, from the invites, right down to the monogrammed favour tags. “It was a point of pride for me,” he says. “If you’ve got a skill, why not use it?” A computer-savvy guy could create a wedding website, while a culinary cutie may want to be left in charge of the menu or wine selection.
For Brave Girls Only
Modern brides coordinate their wedding flowers down to the last zinnia, but did you know the bridal bouquet was traditionally a gift from the groom? Get back to old traditions and allow yourself to be surprised by your groom’s blooms. By keeping the professionals in the process and guiding your guy, you’re certain for a sweet surprise that works perfectly with your wedding day colour scheme and personality!
Lean on Your Lad
Admist all the frenzy of wedding planning, it is key to remember the most important thing your man can contribute to the wedding chores is emotional support. No gentleman would leave his lady in distress. Having a groom who’s there for you will go a long way to helping you though the most arduous to-do list.
