Feeling and looking ragged is never in style, especially when you’re engaged to be married! I chatted with naturopath Dr. Lisa Kopp for some tips on how to plan your wedding day without burning out. Take note of Dr. Kopp’s top five tips, so you can enjoy your engagement, fight the stress of planning and maybe even enjoy the process!
1. Healthy, well balanced diet
This means avoiding liquid cleanses and caloric-restrictive diets. Increase your protein intake with fresh fish, chicken, turkey, red meat, eggs, nut butters, greens, whole grains and fruits and vegetables.
2. Movement and exercise
Walk at least once a day for a minimum of 30 minutes. Yoga is also a good option to help slow things down and relieve stress.
3. Get outside
Get some fresh air and warm up to the sun’s rays for at least 10 to 15 minutes a day. The UVB rays allow your body to produce vitamin D, which is important for bone strength and health and complements calcium’s functions, which include improving your immune system.
4. Schedule weekly breaks
Claim one day out of the week as a non-wedding-related day. This means you will allow yourself to change your frame of mind. Give yourself a break from stressing about wedding plans and enjoy your day off!
5. Drink water
Aim to drink one cup (250 ml) for every 15 pounds of your body weight or one litre for every 60 pounds. Keep in mind that your water consumption will have to increase when you’re exercising, drinking caffeinated beverages (green tea included) and alcohol.
