Once an exotic rarity, destination weddings are becoming more popular each year. While the thought of a tropical “I do” might sound like a dream come true to some brides, there’s a lot to consider before you get your heart set on those beachside nuptials.
To find out exactly what it takes to be a destination bride, Weddingbells went right to the experts. Tara Soloway of Luxe Destination Weddings, a destination-wedding event planning company located in Toronto, Ontario, is not just a bride’s best friend when it comes to planning, she’s also a former destination bride herself. Soloway is quick to point out that if you’re considering a destination wedding of your own, you’re also choosing to let go of some of the control. Although, she’s quick to add that the process of planning a destination wedding has evolved since her Jamaican “I dos” and many resorts are now prepared for a variety of requests.
However, Soloway still stresses it takes a certain attitude to get through the entire process and has comprised a little checklist to help you determine if you are a beach-bound bride-to-be:
- You realize not everyone you invite can or will attend. “In reality not everyone may be able to afford to attend,” explains Soloway.
- You can overlook little details.
- You’re not a control freak. “Bridezillas need not apply,” jokes Soloway. “The bride just won’t have access to the people at the destination.”
- You really just want to grab your guy, wear a dress and let everything else fall into place – destination weddings are supposed to be simple and stress-free.
