Sleek and Simple Wedding Gowns for the Modern Bride

Fashion & Beauty » Fashion & Beauty » Wedding Dresses

One of the hottest fashion trends to emerge from the runways at New York bridal market this season was the sleek and sophisticated wedding dress. Instead of over-the-top texture and detail, many designers showed clean and simple gowns that were all about luxurious fabrics and strong silhouettes. Ruffles, rosettes and bows are fabulous embellishments, but they’re simply not for everyone. If you appreciate dresses that are a little more refined (think Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s minimal wedding gown circa 1996), you’ll fall in love with the simple, streamlined creations that were shown by Oscar de la Renta, Winnie Couture, Romona Keveza and Pronovias to name a few. We’ve selected some of our favourite sleek gowns that are perfect for the modern classic bride. These dresses by top designers are beautiful in their simplicity—think clean silhouettes and minimal embellishments. Sleek and simple designs allow you to add your own special touches by using various statement accessories. Colourful shoes or a dramatic headpiece would make for interesting additions to these sleek dresses. Not into too many accessories? No problem. These sleek wedding dresses look absolutely divine all on their own, too! Peruse our picks for the most stylish sleek and sophisticated designer gowns as you prepare to shop for the wedding dress of your dreams.

A Homey Backyard Wedding in East St. Paul, Manitoba

real weddings

For Jessica and Geoffrey, a DIY backyard wedding was the perfect way to express their laid-back personalities. “We each have our own personal sense of style, so it was important that our backyard wedding reflected that,” Jessica says. To that end, the duo decked out Geoffrey’s parents’ yard with shabby chic elements such as tin can lanterns, lawn games, mismatched patterns and “pre-loved” items from thrift stores. “Planning the whole thing ourselves was fun because it allowed us to have free reign on everything,” Jessica shares. “The day ended up being exactly as we wanted it, and every second was so much fun!” The pair’s grand exit—guests formed a path with sparklers to escort them to a waiting limousine—was a particularly memorable moment.

A Rustic, Vintage Wedding in Oakbank, Manitoba

real weddings

From the moment Cecily and Greg saw the grounds of Pineridge Hollow, they just knew they had be married there. “It reminded me of my grandma’s house, which was filled with antiques,” Cecily explains. “I wanted to recreate that feeling with the same little details at our wedding.” With help from her mother and friends—the self-proclaimed “decor squad”—Cecily planned the ultimate outdoor rustic, vintage wedding celebration complete with birch bark features, DIY projects and warm globe lanterns hanging in the tent. To create a rustic, vintage wedding wonderland, the bride chose a neutral colour palette with purple and green accents. “My favourite flowers are lilacs,” tells Cecily. “I wanted to incorporate colours that would be found outdoors at that time of year to keep the decor looking natural.”
